Virginia's First Green Airport
Commercial airports are composed of a complex blend of airport operators, airlines, tenants, suppliers, and various levels of government, all who address environmental conservation independently.
The Norfolk Airport Authority, charged with the management and development of Norfolk International Airport, is pleased to announce that it has been recognized as a "Virginia Green Partner" by the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Environmental Quality, Virginia Tourism Corporation and the Virginia Hospitality and Tourism Association. Norfolk International is the Commonwealth's first (and currently only) Virginia Green Airport. Virginia Green Partners promote and support sound environmental conservation practices within their businesses.
The Norfolk Airport Authority's Administration, Police, Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting, Building Maintenance, Field Maintenance, Parking and Janitorial departments undertake daily efforts to minimize environmental impact.
Our Virginia Green Profile can be found here under the category of "Transportation":

Norfolk International Airport exists in a beautiful shared woodland area adjacent to Norfolk Botanical Garden, a nature sanctuary abounding with native plants - tall pines, colorful azaleas, dogwood trees and crepe myrtles. The unusual distinction of operating a major commercial air transportation facility in such a unique environment has brought the Airport national acclaim. Environmental preservation has become second nature since our beginnings, and the Airport's best management practices currently include recycling, waste reduction, noise reduction, water conservation and energy efficiency. The Norfolk Airport Authority pledges to continue conservation stewardship for the public benefit.
