Know Before You Go

Airport terminals are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Travelers are encouraged to contact their airline for ticket counter hours and required check-in times. Be sure to also allow extra time to complete the security screening process.  In general, the recommended arrival time at the airport is 90 minutes prior to departure time for domestic flights; 2 hours for international flights.
  • Hourly and Daily parking available in Garage A, Daily parking available in Garages B, C, D and Daily East parking lot. Maximum height allowance in Garage A and D 8′ 1″, Garages B and C 6′ 7″. Standard public parking spaces are 18′ long. Maximum length allowance: vehicles cannot exceed the length of one parking space. Over-height vehicle parking available in Daily East parking lot. Maximum stay in Hourly parking facilities is 30 days; 60 days in Daily parking facilities. Complimentary motorcycle and bicycle parking is available in the Permit Parking Lot adjacent to the Hourly North parking lot. Cash is not accepted. All major credit cards and VISA and Master Card debit cards that can be processed as credit cards are accepted. Debit cards cannot be used if a PIN is required. Alternately, there is a reverse ATM located in the Departures terminal adjacent to the American Airlines ticket counter which will issue a credit card in exchange for cash, for a fee. Patrons may also reserve and prepay discounted parking online for a touchless experience. Staffed self-service and credit card only lanes are open 24 hours daily to serve all garages and hourly surface lots. Self-pay kiosks are open 24 hours daily to serve the Daily East surface lot.
  • Complimentary electric vehicle charging stations located in Garage A Level 1 (hourly parking), Garage C Level 2 (daily parking) and Garage D Ground Level (daily parking) and Level 3 (daily parking).
  • Picking up family or friends at the airport? Follow signs to the Cell Phone Lot or park free of charge for 30 minutes in any parking lot or garage. The Arrivals Terminal curbside is now a passenger loading zone only; no parking or waiting is permitted.
  • Check-in at self-service kiosks near airline ticket counters. Delta offers curbside check-in.
  • Self-serve Smarte Carte luggage carts are located outside the ticket counter areas at curbside on both sides of the Main Passenger Terminal, inside the Arrivals Terminal near baggage carousel 2 and at rental car return on Level 2-Garage A. The cost is $7 to rent a cart with a $.25 refund upon return to any cart rack.
  • Many airport agencies no longer accept cash. Cash conversion kiosks are available in the north and south ticket counter lobbies. Simply insert cash and receive a card to use for travel expenses.
  • Skycap and wheelchair assistance available on demand curbside at the airline ticket counters and baggage claim area. Prearranged services can be made through the airlines.
  • Fuel up before your flight with healthy, tasty options at our full-service HMS Host restaurants and grab-and-go locations in the Main Lobby and Concourses. Water bottle fill stations are located just beyond the TSA checkpoint on Concourses A and B.
  • Pick up a book, magazine or last-minute gift at our Hudson stores located in the Main Lobby and Concourses.
  • Breeze through security by applying for TSA Pre✓™ online.
  • Know your airline’s checked bag policies and fees. Travelers may bring one carry-on bag and one personal item (purse, laptop, etc.) through screening. Visit TSA’s website for permitted and prohibited items.
  • Report lost items to Airport Police at (757) 857-3823 or lostandfound@norfolkairport.com
  • Charge devices on the Concourses, Pedestrian Bridge, Arrivals Terminal and in restaurants. High-speed, secure WiFi is offered terminal-wide. Limited free, hourly and daily plans are available.
  • Family restrooms located in the Arrivals Terminal, Main Lobby, and Concourses.
  • Mother’s Rooms located in the Main Lobby and Concourses. Rooms are equipped with a rocking chair, changing table, sink and multiple outlets to give nursing mothers comfort and privacy.
  • Pet relief areas are located at the Departures Terminal in grassy areas near Door A, Door C, and Door D, at the Arrivals Terminal in grassy areas near Door 0 and Door 5, and near the Daily East Parking Lot in the grassy area near the pedestrian sidewalk. Per Norfolk City Code-Section 4-10, pets are not permitted inside airport terminals unless they are traveling by air in a kennel or carrier or are needed to perform an essential service for their owner. Service and emotional support animals must be on a leash at all times while on the premises. 
  • Automated external defibrillators (AED) and Stop the Bleed kits are located in the Arrivals Terminal, Main Lobby, and Concourses.

  • Need help? Volunteer ambassadors are ready with directions and information. Airport Police are on duty 24/7 to assist with special needs, hearing impaired phone and language translation services.
  • Possession of e-cigarettes inside the terminals is not prohibited but the use of e-cigarettes must be conducted outside.
